It seems there is finally new news on the live action Akira film announced last year. The last we heard was Warner Bros. was running full forawrd and that Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon Levitt were going to star in the highly anticipated film and production was about to start at any moment. Since then, almost nothing has been said.
Well today that seems to have all changed thanks to Collider.com. The big news of the day is that screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are about to turn in their screenplay for the project. Screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are best known for their work on Iron Man and Children of Men, of which they received an Oscar-nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2007. Definitely a major positive to have provenly strong screenwriters.
The story is set to be in post-apocalyptic Manhattan instead of Neo-Tokyo. Should everything work out with the screenplay and everyone gets excited that is involved with the project, we could see a release date no later than 2011 (but that is yet to be seen).
