So how is it that a fun splatterfest of a movie like Infestation is hitting the direct-to-DVD shelves when we get piles of junk like Dance Flick on the big screen. This film definitely seems worthy of my movie going time. I mean, we get giant bugs, a decent looking girl lead, and goddamn awesome Ray Wise. Yes the movie is campy, cheesy, but all around good fun. Yet we get other sorry films in the theater. Either way, check out the trailer below.

Yes it is a long headline, but I stand by it. TechCrunch brings us news on a possible deal that will keep new releases from Redbox, and more importantly Netflix for at least 30 days. So in a nutshell, any new movies released on DVD will not be made available to these outlets until 30 days after they are released to everyone else. Hmmm, so the big question becomes why? Well it seems a few movie studios (Warner Bros, Universal, and Fox), are pushing this deal as a way to curb movie piracy. Although the deal is not quite set with Netflix, it is supposedly still in negotiations. It seems Redbox is already in a lawsuit with Fox over this deal.

So going back to my headline, what is Blockbusters role in all this madness. Well they are obviously on the wrong side of the road and pushing for the idea. Why? Well it will allow their brick and mortar stores, yes if you can still find one, to survive with an edge over their competition. They will have access to the new releases from day one. Talk about a bunch of bullshit. Blockbuster is the old guard doing what they can to survive, and most of the time this can be done admirably. They had the opportunity to compete fairly back in their prime, but greed has left them to rely solely on the studios to save their sorry ass.

In truth what will happen if this deal goes through? It will probably make piracy more rampant. How many people will flock to Blockbuster, since the competition will not have the newest releases? I am sure some will, but I really believe most will simply download it from the glorious ease of the personal pc. To read more, check out TechCrunch. Personally, should the deal actually go through, I will wait the 30 days for my release from Netflix. I have been a member for many, many years, and will willingly make a point to show where my support is. Blockbuster can simply die, and the studios can kiss my rump.

According to ICv2,”Best Buy is about to dramatically change its anime strategy, eliminating most anime from nearly half its stores, according to an industry source. The change will focus Best Buy’s anime efforts on those stores that have historically done best with the category, and nearly eliminate anime in stores that have produced a disproportionate share of anime returns. The new strategy will kick off March 1st, when 50% off anime closeout sales will begin in over 460 stores nationwide. After the sales end on March 21st, those stores will offer only around 20 core anime SKUs.”

For a full list of stores, please click here.

One should keep in mind they are only removing anime from the stores that it performs poorly for. It should in theory have little impact to the masses. Take it as a good moment to get your anime at a great price while the sale is on. But as for John Sirabella, CEO of Media Blasters, stated on Mania.com, “Unfortunately the ramifications of this will be bad, real bad. You are looking at a market that already lost most of the major players. After now the loss of Best Buy, Transworld will probably be the largest company that will carry anime across the board. While there is always places on-line to buy it, this was never a major part of sales. Anime is basically going back in time slowly so it will eventually end up back into how the marketplace was in the early 90s.“
